A study, published in the peer-reviewed journal "Addictive Behaviours", has found telling people that alcohol causes cancer makes them want to drink less.
Author Simone Pettigrew, from The George Institute for Global Health, had 8000 adults complete three surveys. She said alcohol was associated with increased risk of injury and premature death and even moderate drinkers were at risk of some cancers. "We found pairing information about alcohol and cancer with … counting their drinks resulted in drinkers reducing the amount of alcohol they consumed," Prof Pettigrew said.
